Notice I added a second CFL after the first day. All the cuttings were slightly to moderately wilted after transplanting, but they did perk up quite a bit. The only cutting that failed was one that had nearly no leaves and was pretty much just a stem. Also, several cuttings have started growing aerial roots.

The reddish pot in the day eight photos is a Dionaea Muscipula (venus flytrap) that I had in a different terrarium and moved to this one for the increased light.

February 26, 2010: Day 1

March 05, 2010: Day 8

Grow Log, Day 2

Strain: Blosser
Lighting: 2x CFL
Grow Media/Soil Mix: Organic Seed Starting Jiffy-Mix
Fertilizer: None for now
Temperature Range: 70-75 F
Humidity: 80%
Started From: Clone
Start Date: 26 February, 2010

Other Details/Images: Yesterday, I received eight Salvia Divinorum clones from salviasource.org, and have since placed them in Jiffy Peat Pots with Organic Seed Starting Jiffy-Mix, and they are in a 10 gallon aquarium with a light hood containing 2x CFL at 5000k and 2700k color temperature. The lighting is currently on an 18 hour cycle.

They arrived great, but due to the low humidity here they began to wilt pretty quickly. However, after placing them in the aquarium purchased specifically to become a humidity chamber and gauges to go with it, they have all perked up and are looking good. The humidity is maintained right around 80% and the temperature is a pretty consistent 72 F (they are indoors).

Hagen Elite 799 Air Pump

New to the world of Salvia Divinorum cultivation, I needed a few things to assist me in propagation and hydroponic growing of this wonderful plant. In particular, I needed an air pump, check valve (optional), and air stone to provide oxygenated water for rooting cuttings. I'm not a big fan of waiting for parts either, unless there's significant savings to ordering online.

That being said, I picked up all the parts at my local Petsmart, including the Hagen Elite 799 (also called the Hagen Elite Mini) for $5.99 USD. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

This little air pump is a great deal, and provides more than enough oxygenation for several cuttings in a single water supply (1000 cc/minute, 1.0 P.S.I, 1.5w/hr). While not silent, other appliances around are definitely louder (refrigerator, for example) and it blends easily into background noise. Coupled with air line tubing (8' for $1.99), a check valve with integrated filter (not listed online, approx $2.29), and an air stone ($0.49 for a single pack in-store), I'm a few steps closer to propagating Salvia from cuttings.
